Yesterday my friend Marthoma impressed me quite a bit. He had come over, because we wanted to work on something together. When his laptop battery didn’t charge and he couldn’t get the computer started, he discovered an advertisement paper from Lidl, a german food discounter. Yesterday they had a 17″ Laptop, that seemed like a good deal. There is a Lidl just about 100m from my house. My friend went over and bought the €1399 Laptop. It took him only 15 min and he didn’t buy any food while he was at it. According to recent tests the quality of meat and vegetables at Lidl is amongst the worst in Germany.

At the idfa documentary festival in Amsterdam I only saw one film: The Big Blue Yonder by Werner Herzog.

The truth is that most people in the theatre didn’t seem to like it at all. For me it was a great chill out movie. The film combines documentary footage with a crazy science fiction narrative (especially when the narrator speaks with such intensity and a vibrant craziness that reminds of Herzog’s favorite Enemy Klaus Kinski). Some of the images, like the footage of astronauts drifting weightlessly, one has seen before, but usually only a few seconds in a news report. Here you see 15 minutes straight with somebody talking about how the people who escaped from their planet in the Andromeda Galaxy failed with all their great plans on planet earth.
